Mrs. Dana Boyd- Bell

  • Dana Boyd-Bell

Meet our Principal, Mrs. Dana Boyd-Bell

Hello, welcome to Crestwood Elementary where "Learning is a Treat".

I began my educational career in 2001 as a Parent Liaison here at Crestwood Elementary School. I taught fifth grade for five years before moving into administration of this amazing school. I left to serve as a middle school administrator before returning  home to Crestwood.

This year makes my second year as principal of Crestwood Elementary. I am a graduate of Meridian Community College, Mississippi State University and the University of West Alabama. My educational experiences have afforded me the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to meet the goal of increasing student achievement and developing a well-rounded student. My educational philosophy is based on the belief that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, strong and knowledgeable leadership, a committed and focused educational team, an encouraging community, and a supportive family.

I am the mother of two amazing children and the "Gia" of two beautiful granddaughters. I am also supported by a wonderful husband that has always been the wind beneath my wings.

It is an honor and privilege to serve as your principal.  Please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"

Mrs. Brittani N. Emerson

Welcome to Crestwood Elementary School, where learning is truly a treat! I am so elated to serve as Assistant Principal with such a dedicated and passionate team of teachers and staff! I was born in Meridian, MS, and relocated back after discovering that home is truly where the heart is. My greatest blessings call me wife and mother. I am married to my childhood friend, Torion Emerson, and we share two amazing children together. I have answered the calling of teaching for six, adventurous years where I have grown and nurtured my students through the discovery of their own abilities and development into positive leaders and scholars in the school’s community. I attended Crestwood Elementary as a student, teacher, and now as an administrator. Upon the completion of my Masters in School Administration from MSU Meridian, I was honored with the 2019 Meridian Public School District Teacher of the Year Award.

I believe that children are a gift and possess diverse talents and capabilities. I am proud to be a part of the most challenging and rewarding profession. Each and every child can learn; and it is our duty, as educators, to discover that particular way of learning and academic growth. It is my goal to help and encourage students to look beyond the four walls of our school and view the world as a place of limitless possibilities. By doing this, I hope to instill in our students a desire to become lifelong learners and leaders in an ever-evolving world. Let’s make the 2020-2021 school year one of the best ever!

“Excellence begins with me.”

Bachelor's in Elementary Education

Ms. Jerlisa Jones

Jerlisa Jones was born and raised in Butler, Alabama; and from a young age, she has always had a passion for teaching. Jerlisa graduated from The University of West Alabama with a degree in Elementary Education. She was the first-generation college graduate in her family, and she knew the importance of a good foundation in education. She knew from her own personal experience that a child can’t help where they come from, but it’s the teacher’s responsibility to take them where they need to go to be successful in a complex and ever-changing world.

Jerlisa started her teaching career at Crestwood Elementary in 2014. Throughout her career, Jerlisa has been honored time and time again for her unwavering dedication to her students inside and outside the classroom. Over 90 percent of her students passed the MKAS2 3rd Grade Reading Summative Assessment in her first year of teaching. The following year she was awarded Teacher of the Year 2015-2016 for her success as a teacher who exhibited exemplary leadership, personal integrity, and dedication to the Meridian Public School District. She also have had   an outstanding 100 percent pass rate on the MKAS2 3rdGrade Reading Summative Assessment in 2016-2017.   Jerlisa also received Teacher of the Year during  2017-2018 school term.

Jerlisa’s philosophy of teaching is that students don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care. She solely believes that an educator can empower a scholar by motivating and inspiring them with words of hope, those very same words could change their lives forever. Jerlisa believes that educators should call themselves “difference makers” instead of a teacher or educator, because teaching is about preparing students to be productive citizens of society and to equip them with everything they need to compete in a complex and ever-changing world.Jerlisa also believes that every child can learn when given the opportunity. In her classroom, she does her best to ensure that every lesson is an impactful lesson by implementing the different learning styles in her classroom to give every child and opportunity to learn.
