Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds

As you are aware, the Federal Government has allocated monies (ESSER FUNDS-Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund) to address the impact that the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools across the United States.  Funds are provided to State educational agencies and school districts to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the Nation’s students. These funds are to assist schools with purchasing of technology, distance learning needs, health and safety resources, learning loss, etc. The following is information on the plans for the money allotted to Meridian Public School District. The plans may be amended as other needs arrive. 

ESSER I
Approximately $3,162,293

Chromebooks, laptops, Carts, emotional supports, PPE, professional development to support distance learning and bridging the learning gap, health, and safety resources.

ESSER II
Approximately $13,653,979

Planned Expenditures: Early learning support, direct support to elementary, middle, and high schools; direct support to vo-tech programs, after-school and summer school programs to support bridging the learning gap and enrichment across all grade levels, additional social workers, additional nurses, behavior counselors, and emotional supports, teachers and assistant teachers to support interventions to bridge the learning gap, professional development for teachers and leaders, resources to support library media centers, support for (business folks), HVAC technician support, custodial support, IT support, parent and community engagement support, building infrastructure improvements as outlined by legislation to support air quality (HVAC) and mitigation of the spread of infection. Plans will be amended as necessary based on the identified needs in the district.  

ESSER III
Approximately $30,664,898

This money has not been released. Preliminary planning is in progress, but MPSD anticipates the continuation and expansion of the planned expenditures in ESSER II: Continued early learning support, direct support to elementary, middle, high school; direct support to vo-tech programs, after-school and summer school programs to support bridging the learning gap and enrichment across all grade levels, additional social workers, additional nurses, behavior counselors, and emotional supports, teachers and assistant teachers to support interventions to bridge the learning gap, professional development for teachers and leaders, resources to support library media centers, support for (business folks), HVAC technician support, custodial support, IT support, parent and community engagement support, additional building infrastructure improvements as outlined by legislation to support air quality (HVAC) and mitigation of the spread of infection. These funds will be reviewed every six months once the initial plan is approved. The plan will be amended as necessary based on the identified needs in the district.
