MHS receives School of Innovation Banner

MHS presented School of Innovation Banner by MDE.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 24, 2025

Meridian, Miss. – Meridian High School was formally recognized as a School of Innovation by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) during a special presentation on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

This designation highlights Meridian High School’s commitment to innovative teaching and learning practices that prepare students for success in college, career, and life. Schools of Innovation are recognized by MDE for creating unique academic pathways, integrating real-world experiences into instruction, and expanding opportunities for students to engage in personalized and project-based learning.

“Meridian High School continues to set the bar high for life after high school by making sure our students leave MHS ready to continue their education, become employed, enlist in the military, or become an entrepreneur," said Dr. Amy Carter, MPSD Superintendent.  “We are proud of this recognition and what it represents for our students, teachers, and community.”

For the current school year, MHS implemented the College and Career Academy model of education designed to help all students reach their college and career goals. In this model, all students are placed in an academy beginning in ninth grade and continue until graduation with the intended goal of improving student attendance, engagement, and graduation rates.

The academies at MHS are the Freshman Academy, Business Academy, Arts Academy, Health Academy, and the Exclusively Exceptional Academy. Each academy will provide hands-on, application-based academics to solve learning issues in its current traditional model of education.

“This banner is more than an honor—it is a symbol of the hard work, collaboration, and innovation happening in our classrooms every day,” added MHS Principal Sherrod Miller. “I am so thankful for the hardworking staff at MHS that dedicated many hours to making this possible.”

The entire Wildcat nation celebrates this achievement as Meridian High School showcases its dedication to empowering students through innovative education.
