MPSD Celebrated Ribbon-Cutting for New Meridian High School Entrance Addition

MHS Entrance Ribbon Cutting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | July 16, 2026

Meridian, MS — The Meridian Public School District celebrated the completion of the new entrance addition at Meridian High School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

The new entrance addition was one of several capital improvement projects made possible through the district's 2022 $34 million bond issue, which was approved by Meridian voters without increasing taxes for local taxpayers. The project reflected the district's continued commitment to providing safe, modern, and welcoming learning environments for students, staff, and visitors.

Designed by Dale Bailey Architects and constructed by Albritton Construction, the new entrance created an enhanced front entrance to Meridian High School while improving accessibility, security, and the overall appearance of the campus. The addition now serves as a welcoming gateway for students, families, alumni, and community members who visit one of Mississippi's most historic high schools.

District leaders, community members, local officials, alumni, and project partners gathered to commemorate the completion of the project and recognize the collaboration that made it possible.

"This project represents another important investment in the future of Meridian High School and our students," said Dr. Amy Carter, Superintendent of Meridian Public School District. "We are grateful to the citizens of Meridian for their support of the 2022 bond initiative, which continues to deliver meaningful improvements across our district while honoring our commitment of no tax increase."

Meridian High School Principal Sherrod Miller said the addition represents more than just a new entrance.

"This beautiful entrance sets the tone for every student, family member, and visitor who walks through our doors," Miller said. "It reflects the pride we have in Meridian High School and demonstrates our district's commitment to providing first-class facilities that match the excellence of our students, faculty, and staff. We are excited to welcome the Wildcat community into a space that showcases the tradition and bright future of Meridian High School."

The entrance addition is part of the district's long-term facilities improvement plan aimed at modernizing campuses, enhancing safety, and creating spaces that support student achievement for generations to come. The project stands as another example of the Meridian Public School District's commitment to responsible stewardship of public resources while investing in educational excellence.

Director of Operations Clay Sims said the project reflects the district's commitment to delivering high-quality facilities while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

"This entrance addition is the result of careful planning and the strong partnerships we have with our architects, contractors, and district leadership," Sims said. "From the beginning, our goal was to create a welcoming, secure, and functional entrance that will serve Meridian High School for decades to come.”

The Meridian Public School District extends its appreciation to Dale Bailey Architects, Albritton Construction, district staff, and the Meridian community for their partnership and support in bringing the project to completion.
