Poplar Springs Elementary 4th Graders Shine with Mississippi Music Legends Tribute
This morning, the fourth graders of Poplar Springs Elementary took to the stage and brought to life the rich musical heritage of their home state. Their performance, titled “Mississippi Legends,” honored some of the greatest musicians to emerge from the Magnolia State, including Elvis Presley, Jimmie Rodgers, B.B. King, Faith Hill, and more.
The school auditorium buzzed with anticipation as families, teachers, and members of the community gathered to witness the show.
“Mississippi Music Legends” opened with “Go Mississippi” featuring a solo from Isabella Nowell and was followed by “The Blues.”
The King of Rock and Roll made an appearance as students performed “Jailhouse Rock,” featuring solos from Ristian Windham, Landon Williams, Ladereon Toole, and Bray’den Jackson, and a dance feature by Jade Short.
Next, soloists Luke Bailey and Anson Walton sang “Waitin for a Train,” by Meridian’s own Jimmie Rodgers, the Father of American Music.” Cadence Chapman performed Faith Hill’s “Mississippi Girl,” with a dance feature by Joslyn Dunlap and Ryley Eddie.
Other soloists in the program were Ashlyeen Dawson, Fendi Bledsoe, and Zoreona Sims.
The show closed with “One Mississippi!”
The musical was written and directed by Poplar Springs Elementary Visual Arts Teacher Lydia Brand.
