District Named “Successful” by MDE for Fourth Consecutive Year

MERIDIAN, MS — The Meridian Public School District (MPSD) has once again been recognized for its commitment to academic achievement. For the fourth consecutive year, the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has recognized MPSD as a “Successful” district in the annual Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP).

The MAAP assessment measures student performance in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and U.S. History, providing a clear picture of how well students are mastering grade-level standards. Maintaining a “Successful” rating for four consecutive years reflects the dedication of MPSD students, teachers, staff, and families to ensuring strong academic outcomes across the district.

“We are proud of this accomplishment and what it represents for our students and our community,” said Dr. Amy Carter, Superintendent of Meridian Public School District. “Earning this rating for four years in a row shows the consistency of our efforts, the hard work of our teachers and staff, and the determination of our students to succeed. This recognition is not just about a score — it’s about the growth and progress we are making together and our determination to keep getting better.”

MPSD continues to focus on high-quality instruction, innovative programs, and support services that cater to the diverse needs of all learners. District leaders say the results affirm their commitment to excellence and their belief that every child can achieve at high levels with the right opportunities and support.

Initiatives at the secondary level helped the district see gains in acceleration for the 2024-2025 school year. These gains can be attributed to dual-credit partnerships with Meridian Community College and Tougaloo College. With Meridian High School being named a School of Innovation and a middle college partnership with Meridian Community College, the district continues to look for ways to innovate in the area of college and career readiness.

Focusing on intervention at the elementary level has shown gains with our lowest performing students and increases across the board with our EL and self-contained students.
