Meridian Public School District Receives Prestigious District of Innovation Banner

MPSD receives District of Innovation Banner

The Meridian Public School District (MPSD) reached a proud milestone on Thursday, April 23, 2026, as district leaders were officially presented with the District of Innovation Banner during the April meeting of the MPSD Board of Trustees.

The recognition was presented by Dr. Chinelo Graves of the Mississippi Department of Education, who joined board members, administrators, and community stakeholders to celebrate the district’s commitment to forward-thinking practices and student-centered innovation.

The District of Innovation designation highlights school districts across Mississippi that demonstrate a strong commitment to implementing creative strategies that enhance student learning, improve outcomes, and expand opportunities for all students. From instructional approaches to operational improvements, districts earning this distinction serve as models for educational excellence across the state.

Superintendent Dr. Amy Carter and district leaders accepted the banner on behalf of MPSD, emphasizing that the honor belongs to the entire school community.

“This banner represents the hard work of our educators, staff, students, and families,” said Dr. Carter. “Innovation is not just a title—it’s a mindset.  We are committed to creating learning environments that prepare our students for success both now and in the future.”

The banner will be proudly displayed as a symbol of the district’s ongoing commitment to excellence, innovation, and expansion of academy models at the middle school level, increased career exposure for elementary students, and continued efforts to ensure all graduates are prepared for life beyond high school—whether that path includes higher education, military service, entering the workforce, or entrepreneurship.

MPSD continues to build on this momentum by expanding programs, strengthening academic initiatives, and fostering a culture where creativity and achievement go hand in hand.
