MPSD, The MAX partner for Festival of the Arts

MPSD Festival of the Arts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | April 24, 2026

Meridian, MS — The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience (The MAX) came alive with color, creativity, and community pride as the Meridian Public School District’s Festival of the Arts proved to be a resounding success last night.

From the moment doors opened, families, students, and community members filled the venue to experience an evening dedicated to celebrating the incredible artistic talent across MPSD. Guests enjoyed an immersive art walk featuring student exhibits, along with live performances that spanned music, dance, theatre, and spoken word.

The courtyard buzzed with energy as attendees sampled local food trucks and enjoyed performances from the MPSD Jazz Band. Throughout the evening, students from across the district took center stage, showcasing their skills through choir performances, ballet demonstrations, theatre monologues, and interactive media arts experiences.

Upstairs, visual art displays and hands-on exhibits invited guests to engage directly with student creativity, while panels and demonstrations highlighted the strength and growth of arts programming throughout the district.

“This event truly reflects the heart of our district,” said Dr. Antonio Altman, MPSD District Arts Director. “Seeing our students express themselves so confidently and creatively, and watching the community come out to support them, is what makes this work so meaningful. The arts are not just programs in our schools—they are powerful tools for connection, expression, and opportunity.”

The evening concluded with a special finale performance by MPSD arts educators in the courtyard, bringing the celebration full circle and underscoring the passion behind the programs that inspire students daily.

“This is our third year partnering with MPSD to present this event, and we couldn’t be more supportive of our local schools and the role of arts in education,” said Penny Kemp, The MAX President and CEO. “We know from empirical data and our own firsthand experience the transformative power of the arts. The MAX is thrilled to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents while developing confidence, leadership, and empathy skills.”

MPSD extends sincere appreciation to its sponsors, whose support helped make the event possible, including the Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience, the Phil Hardin Foundation, and Any Given Child Meridian.
