National School Breakfast Week Campaign Encourages Students to Try School Breakfast

Meridian, MS – February 27, 2026 – To encourage more families to take advantage of the healthy choices available with school breakfast, Meridian Public School District schools will celebrate National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) during March 2-6, 2026.

Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. Fortunately, Meridian Public School District schools offer nutritious school breakfasts, complete with fruit and low-fat or fat-free milk, to ensure students are fueled for learning every school day. Each cafeteria offers breakfast each morning in the dining area of the cafeteria. There are 2 to 3 breakfast options for students to choose from.

The 2026 NSBW campaign theme, “The Quest For School Breakfast,” reminds the entire school community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students.

Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:

• Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math

• Score higher on standardized tests

• Have better concentration and memory

• Be more alert

• Maintain a healthy weight

School nutrition professionals and students will be encouraged to show their enthusiasm for school breakfast from March 2-6 as the district celebrates NSBW with special menus, activities, and more. During this week we will feature a themed related breakfast item each day.

“Each school day, Meridian Public School District cafeterias serve a nutritious breakfast that includes whole grains, fresh or canned fruit, and low-fat or fat-free milk," said Louise McPhee, MPSD Child Nutrition Director. "Menus are carefully planned to meet USDA nutrition standards and provide students with the energy they need to focus, learn, and succeed in the classroom.”
