MHS Athletics Recap - March 22, 2021

MHS Varsity Baseball
Petal 11, MHS 4
The Wildcat baseball team lost a late lead in an 11-4 defeat to Petal on Tuesday, March 22, 2021. Meridian was up 4-3 with Petal batting in the top of the seventh when Chris Matthews induced Blake Hooks to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Garrett Barger was the winning pitcher for Petal. The ace went one and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out three, and walking zero.
Matthews took the loss for Meridian, allowing four hits and six runs over one inning, striking out one, and walking zero.
Bobby Magee started the game for Petal. Magee surrendered four runs on eight hits over five and a third innings, striking out ten. Caleb Arrington started the game for MHS surrendering two runs on four hits over five innings. He had two strikeouts.
The Wildcats tallied ten hits in defeat. D'Marion Terrell and Tyler Grace all had multiple hits for Meridian. Petal racked up nine hits on the day. Blake Roberts, Blake King, and Eli Britt each racked up multiple hits for Petal.

Middle School Baseball
The middle school Wildcats split a doubleheader on March 21 against West Lauderdale. The middle school Wildcats picked up the win in game one 9-8 and took the loss in game two 7-0. In game one, the Cats went into their final at bat trailing 8-2. A seven run inning gave the home team a 9-8 lead and Ty Jones came in on the mound to get the final outs to secure the win. The middle school Wildcats are scheduled to play West Lauderdale on the road Thursday.
