Update July 31, 2020
Meridian Public School District Families,
Thank you for your patience and understanding during these uncertain times. After consulting with our school board and administration, the decision has been made to bring all MPSD students back for the beginning of the school year on August 10, 2020, using the online learning method. This decision has been made after looking at the recent spike in COVID-19 cases across our state and local area and the review of data from MDE, MSDH, AAPMS, and MHSAA in accordance with the CDC considerations for opening schools.
At this time, the earliest students would return to campus for in-person instruction would be September 8, 2020. I want you to know that the safety of our staff and students remains my top priority, and I didn’t want to jeopardize their safety by bringing them back on-campus while cases continued to increase.
The district will use its automated messaging system, social media, and website to release additional information regarding meals soon.
Extracurricular activities, which have been taking place over the summer, will continue in keeping with the health and safety guidelines already in place.
Contact your local school if you have additional questions. Information about technology pickup will be sent out soon.
Please be aware that this situation is ever-changing, and all plans are subject to change pending orders of the Governor and guidelines of the Mississippi Department of Health. This decision was not made lightly and our top priority remains the safety and well being of our students, faculty, and staff.
Dr. Amy Carter
