MHS’ Wildcat Players bring home several awards at 2022 MTA State Festival

Members of MHS' Wildcat Players at the MSU Riley Center.The Meridian High School Wildcat Players brought home several awards during the Mississippi Theatre Association State Festival held at the MSU-Riley Center from January 13-16, 2022.

The Wildcat Players performed “Decoration Day: The Annihilation of Black Wall Street,” which is an original work written by MHS Theatre Director Randy Wayne.

“I couldn't have asked for a better performance,” said Randy Wayne, MHS Theatre Instructor.

The MHS Wildcat Players picked up awards in the following categories:

  • Best Ensemble Award - Meridian High School
  • Best Supporting Actor - Shacobe Rush
  • All-Star Cast - Xzavier Henderson, Emily Gowdy
  • The Nia Award for Raising Awareness of Social Justice

The Mississippi Theatre Association State Festival is a four-day event that includes college auditions, scholarship opportunities, one-act play festivals, theatre for youth festivals, individual events for high school students and adults, and workshops. MTA Festival is the one time each year that theatre-makers of all disciplines from across the state can gather together and celebrate each other’s work.

The MTA State Festival will take place in Tupelo, MS on January 12-15, 2023.
