West Hills' Yates wins MPSD Elementary Spelling Bee

Elementary students in the Meridian Public School District participated in the District Spelling Bee held on March 28, 2019, in the auditorium at Northwest Middle School.

The competition, which included 3rd-5th-grade students, lasted 11 grueling rounds. Issac Yates, a fifth-grader at West Hills Elementary, correctly spelled the winning word, which was “compartment.” West Hills fifth grader Claire Stennis placed second and Poplar Springs fourth grader Karmelo O’Brien placed third.

The spelling bee featured 22 contestants from all seven MPSD elementary school campuses.
