Four MPSD Schools recognized as PBIS Tier 2 Model Site Status
MERIDIAN- Four schools in the Meridian Public School District were recently recognized for completing the requirements to being named a Tier 2 Model Site by the PBIS state technical assistance provider REACH MS! Parkview Elementary, Poplar Springs Elementary, Carver Middle School and Meridian High School were honored by the Meridian Public School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Amy Carter at the regularly scheduled School Board Meeting held on Monday, August 19, 2019.
"All of our District schools have achieved model PBIS site status, and now we have four schools to have taken the next step and achieved Tier 2 model site status. That is quite an accomplishment for our students, parents, and educators," said Howard Hagwood, MPSD PBIS Director.
Model site status is awarded to schools that have been evaluated using a tool known as the Tier 2 Evaluation Tool (T2ET) to determine the level of implementation and fidelity of PBIS. PBIS is a proactive, data-based, educative process of creating discipline systems in the school community that supports both staff/faculty and student behavior. These schools are a place where administrators, teachers, counselors, and others can visit to learn and experience an environment that is advantageous to learning. REACH MS, the State’s Personnel Development Grant, located at The University of Southern Mississippi, provides professional development and technical assistance to schools and districts across the state.
“This is such an amazing accomplishment for our schools to continue being recognized on a state-wide level,” said MPSD Superintendent Dr. Amy Carter. “I am so proud of our students, parents, teachers, and administrators for their work to improve student discipline.”
