Men making Men off to a great start
Over 40 men were in attendance at the initial Meridian Public School District’s kickoff for the “Men Making Men” male mentor program. The meeting took place on Thursday, September 15, 2022, in the MHS Multipurpose Building.
“We introduced to the group tonight what we come up with so far, and what the program will look like,” said Joseph Stone, MHS Academic Coach. “We’ll have some input tonight, but the main thing is that we want to gauge the interest of the community and see who wants to be a part of this program and who wants to be a mentor.”
During the meeting, attendees learned that the framework for the program will be centered around the “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens” and will offer opportunities for mentors to come to campuses and build relationships with the students in the program.
“Honestly, we know what the research says… a lot of our young men are coming from single-parent homes and sometimes it just takes that male figure to help them navigate certain decisions they have to make in life, said Stone. “Having that male camaraderie just kinda helps them grow and become the young men that we want them to be.”
The next meeting of the Men Making Men male mentor program will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the MHS Multipurpose Building.
