MPSD announces District Administrator, Teacher of the Year
January 20, 2023- The Meridian Public School District is pleased to announce that the 2022-23 Administrator of the Year is Angela McQuarley and the 2022-23 Teacher of the Year is Fannetta Dancy-Crenshaw. The announcement was made during the January 17, 2023, meeting of the MPSD Board of Trustees.
Administrator of the Year | Angela McQuarley, Meridian High School
Mrs. McQuarley, who is in her second year as principal at Meridian High School, has spent her entire career serving students in the Meridian Public School District. Under her leadership and in collaboration with her teachers and the community, MHS moved to a “B rating” on the 2022 MDE Accountability Scores. She was an Administrator at Parkview Elementary and Magnolia Middle School, where both schools received a successful rating under her leadership. McQuarley has served MPSD as a teacher assistant, classroom teacher, assistant principal, and assistant CTE Director throughout her career.
“Mrs. McQuarley has been a proven leader with sustained performance over the course of her tenure in Meridian Public School District,” said Dr. Amy Carter, MPSD Superintendent. “Most recently, we commend her for her leadership and the level of excellence at MHS — leading them into accomplishing a high-performing label.”
“This recognition really caught me completely off guard and I was not expecting it. I am proud and honored to receive the ‘Administrator of the Year for MPSD,” said Angela McQuarley, MHS Principal. “ As I have always stated, I am fortunate to work with a great team. The drive and determination from my team allows me to trust that decisions are being made in the best interest of all. My main priority is to ensure that our students get the best education allotted to them in a conducive environment.”
Teacher of the Year | Fannetta Dancy-Crenshaw, TJ Harris Upper Elementary
In her fifth year as a teacher, Dancy-Crenshaw teaches fifth-grade science at TJ Harris Upper Elementary School. Dancy has a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Biology from the University of West Alabama and is completing her Master of Arts in Secondary Education from Mississippi State University.
“I don't know how to feel right now. But it's amazing to be able to receive this award. I never thought that I'd be receiving this award,” said Dancy-Crenshaw. “My favorite part of teaching is seeing my students excited about learning and eager to come to class and see what they will be learning.”
“Mrs. Dancy-Crenshaw, as I said at the board meeting, is known by her principal at the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time),” said Dr. Amy Carter, MPSD Superintendent. “She goes above and beyond to help her family, and her students, and to assist her colleagues.
