The Northwest Wildcats defeated the Magnolia Wildcats 22-8 for the City Championship on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Ray Stadium. Magnolia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring a safety from a bad snap, which caused Northwest's Quarterback, Bryson Jackson, to be sacked in the end zone. This was unfortunate, but it was all Northwest for the next 31 minutes of the game.
Northwest struck paydirt in the end zone first on a JaQaylen Lewis #22 run after he found the edge and scampered for a long run. By halftime, the score was 6-2 Northwest. Northwest was all gas and no brakes to start the 2nd half when Bryson Jackson found Demarcus Terry on a post route for a 60 yard touchdown followed by a 2-point try that was good!
The score was now Northwest 14, Magnolia 2. After stellar defense all night that was able to shut down the Magnolia offense, Northwest gave way to a Magnolia score. Defense held the line resulting in an unsuccessful 2-point attempt leaving the score Northwest 14 Magnolia 8.
JaQaylen Lewis once again found the edge for Northwest and another 2-point conversion was good resulting in a score of Northwest 22 Magnolia 8.
The Northwest defense once again was able to hold off the Magnolia offense and the game ended with Magnolia taking a knee.
Northwest also finished the season on a 5-game winning streak, resulting in a season record of 5-2!
