MHS Baseball wins again
The Wildcats rolled to a 16-4 victory over Lamar on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, in high school baseball action.
MHS got on the board in the top of the first inning when James Carson singled in a run for the early lead.
Lamar scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a home run by Jackson Whitcomb.
The Wildcats pulled away for good with seven runs in the third inning. In the third, Tylan Cole hit a solo homer, John Lindsey III singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Johnathon Scarbrough singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs, DaMarion Terrell grounded out, scoring one run, Cole singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run, and Tyler Grace singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
Terrell was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats. Terrell surrendered four runs on four hits over five innings, striking out ten.
Wyatt Bond took the loss for Lamar. The right-hander lasted one inning, allowing five hits and four runs.
The Wildcats scattered 19 hits in the game. Grace, Breylan Jones, Lindsey III, Terrell, Scarbrough, Cole, and Carson each managed multiple hits for the Wildcats. Terrell, Lindsey III, Jones, and Grace each collected three hits to lead the Wildcats.
Whitcomb went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Lamar Raiders Varsity in hits.
The MHS junior varsity picked up a 12-6 win over the Raiders’ J.V. team.
MHS returns to action on Friday, March 3, when they travel to Clarkdale. Junior Varsity plays at 5 p.m. and Varsity plays at 7 p.m.
